Douglass' Women: A Novel by Jewell Parker Rhodes

Anna Murray is Douglass' first love, a free Maryland woman of color who falls in love with the young slave and helps him escape the South. Although Frederick marries Anna, he starts a physical relationship with his intellectual match, German Ottillie Assing.
